Date Nut Bread
Preparation Time

Ingredients
1 cup dates
1 tsp. soda
3/4 cup boiling water
1 egg (separated)
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)
Directions
Sprinkle dates with soda, pour the boiling water over the mixture and let
stand until cool. Break egg yolk into a bowl, beat, add sugar gradually, add
vanilla. Combine with date mixture. Sift the into mixture: flour, baking powder,
salt, and mix in. Do NOT beat. Pour into greased 8 x 4 x 3 loaf tin. Bake
about 75 minutes in moderate oven (350 degrees). Better when one day old.
